The rules are simple.  The top two female and male runners from each club in the full, half and 5k will have their times added together and then ranked in order of total time. Club with the fastest total time wins that division.  In the relay, each club has to have a male and female team.  Again times will be added and the fastest total time wins.

Plaques will be awarded for each race and then a trophy will given to the Club with the best performance.  This will be based on a point system (1 point for first in the full, etc.)

42. Marin County Marathon, APRIL 7, 2012-  8:00 AM.  McNear's Beach County Park, 201 Cantera Way, San Rafael, CA.  http://www.marinmarathon.com.  Frank,

By way of introduction, my name is Ernie Stanton and I am a longtime member of Excelsior Running Club in the city.  Friends of China Camp (FOCC) is a committee of the Marin State Parks Association (MSPA), which coincidentally is comprised of the 4 Marin state parks slated to close this coming July -China Camp, Olompali, Samuel P. Taylor and Tomales Bay.  While the latter 2 parks have at least a one-year reprieve because of help from the National Park Service, the situations at Olompali and China Camp are still uncertain.  The traditional mission of FOCC, as a cooperating association with the state parks, has been the support of educational and interpretive activities within the park and the stewardship of the fishing village and its museum.  However, with the recent closure crisis, we have begun to support the park on the operational side as well.  This past October and November FOCC paid for an extension of our summer Park Aide into mid-November, and we are now paying for the servicing of the two porta-johns in the Miwok Meadows day-use area that had previously been closed by the park.

As we move closer to July 1st of this year, when China Camp will receive NO state funding, we anticipate taking on more responsibility within the park.  As a result we are beginning to increase our outreach and fundraising efforts, both as FOCC and at the MSPA level.  Due to the largess of one of our members, Mark Liebert, who is the race director of the Marin Marathon, one of our current projects is providing 25 volunteers for the event in exchange for a $1 donation to FOCC for every race entrant.  The paragraph below is a "blurb" that I have been sending to local PA clubs to share with their runners.  It would be fantastic, and much appreciated, if you could share information on the Marin Marathon with Tamalpa's runners on your website and any other team communication you use.

It's not a PA race, but the Marin Marathon is a 3-race event held on Saturday April 7th starting at McNear's Beach and running in Peacock Gap area & China Camp State Park. There are 3 races: 1/2 marathon, 10K & 5K. For anybody missing Sacramento the week before, this is a great opportunity to get a long race in. The 1/2 is 7 miles on road, then 6 on trail. Very challenging course/no PRs, but you get your money's worth with lots of rolling hills, but nothing very steep. For those running for pleasure, all the courses are very scenic; for people going hard course is easy to focus on/no distractions/well-marked, very cool running tangents on closed country road along bay shore and, if you go out smart, pretty good tempo/threshold running on trail on way back. Well organized (races start at same place but different times), decent schwag and good tech t-shirts (color coded by race). A minimum of $5 per entry going to Breast Cancer Emergency Fund, which directly helps low-income people with breast cancer pay their bills while undergoing their difficult treatment process. And $1 is also going to Friends of China Camp, which is helping to keep the state park open. Website is www.marinmarathon.com. Please share this with non-club runners also.  Finally, at some point in the next few months, I would love to discuss with you the possibility of returning the Johnny Lawson Tamalpa Challenge to the Back Ranch area of China Camp.  We would certainly be willing to provide volunteer assistance and possibly provide Tamalpa with a donation to help cover race expenses.  Also, if any of your runners want to go to the Marin Marathon as a group, have them contact the race director, Mark Liebert, and ask about signing up as a team, and he can explain how they get a reserved table at McNear's and some other perks.

Thank you so much and thank you so much for what you do in the running community!

Sincerely,

Ernie Stanton

Treasurer and Membership Chairman

50. Boston Marathon 2012 Shapiro/Shimokaji for American Medical Athletic Association, APRIL 16, 2012-

HELLO FRIENDS, FAMILY AND RUNNERS,

I am Tyler Shapiro (18 years old) and my mom is Dr. Gayle Shimokaji.  I'm raising money to run the 2012 Boston Marathon and to help with the fight against youth obesity in the U.S. by teaming up with the American Medical Athletic Association (AMAA).  My mom is a doctor and I am a premed student which allows us to attend medical meetings and volunteer as medical aides before and after the Boston Marathon.  Over 30 percent of children ages six to 11 are overweight, 15 percent are obese, and three out of five children ages nine to 13 don't participate in sports or other coached physical activities outside of school. These overweight and unfit children are more likely to remain unhealthy in adulthood and have an increased risk for developing life-threatening medical conditions such as Type II diabetes and heart disease.   Donations made on my behalf will help me reach my goal of running the Marine Corps Marathon and will allow AMAA and the American Running Association (its sister organization) to support their joint "Youth Fitness Programs Campaign." The campaign's central national event is the "National Run A Mile Days" which takes place the first week in May each year.  Please consider donating. Any amount will help me get closer to my goal of running the Boston Marathon and will support these two non-profit organizations as they work hard to deter youth obesity through fun and motivating programs.
