12. Grand Canyon Rim to Rim (North to South, one way), October 3, 2009-Frank: I'd appreciate your adding the following to the Tamalpa This & That:
October 3, 2009: Grand Canyon Rim to Rim (North to South, one way).  This year, I'll be doing my annual North-to-South traverse of the Grand Canyon on Saturday, October 3.  Past years have required between 7.5 and 8.5 hours, depending on weather, energy levels and the stamina of those joining me.  An orthopedic surgeon from Flagstaff (multiple black-shirt winner Amber Randall) likely will be along.  This is one of the most glorious  (and challenging) 24 miles anywhere.  Potable water and restrooms at 2, 7, 14, 19.5, 21 and 22.5 miles.  Lodging at/near the North Rim goes fast; there's camping, but night temperatures can dip into the 20s (nearly 9,000 feet above sea level on the North Rim).  For more information, contact George Forman, george@gformanlaw.com, 415-302-2906.
