If one were to climb Loma Alta, and some might question the wisdom of such an undertaking, this was a perfect morning for it. The air was still and comfortably warm, nothing excessive. There was a refreshing cooling at the top, very welcome after the long, steady climb, and the vistas in all directions were nothing less than spectacular. Of course, this was a footrace and few paused even momentarily to savor those views, but they were of the quality to vow to return someday when one was not in such a hurry. Mark McManus spent the least time of anyone soaking in the surroundings, dispatching a quality field for his second victory of the season. Young Alesandra Roger also handled an impressive women's group that included Karen Steele, Natalie Simi and Liz Shortino, none of whom give it up easily on this type of course. The course includes an extra "bonus" section on the other side of the summit before the downhill return which gives new meaning to the label of Insult Hill, and the finishers' times will illustrate how spread out the field was by the end.
