2006 TCRS # 7 Results

Shoreline Bike Path, San Rafael, Distance ~3.3 miles
August 13th, 2006
79 finishers - 21 women, 58 men

In marked contrast to July's bake-fest at San Geronimo, TCRS's August edition on the Shoreline bikepath in East San Rafael was produced under gray skies and downright chilly conditions. A flat 3.3-miler along the Francisco Boulevard breakwater took us from the Richmond Bridge end down to Pickleweed Park and back. Tom Lyons played the uncertainty of the distance just right, waiting until the turnaround to trust it was safe to open up a bit and pull away from fellow ultra buddy Jed Tukman and a resurgent Roy Kissin. Teen star Alesandra Roger put forth a convincing victory among the women, cracking the magical Top Ten overall and overshadowing a very impressive second-place performance from Tamara Gonzalez. The volunteer crew of Jen, Heidi, Lillie, Marilyn, Ana, Anitra, Ray and others was so on top of things that Jay Wigger, usually a volunteer stalwart, threw up his hands and decided to run the race. Sincere apologies to all who were inconvenienced by the murky race directions in the Gazette, and particularly to any who missed the race entirely because of it (including Brad and Don.) To paraphrase someone or other, "Stuff happens. TCRS is not always tidy." We do strive to head in that direction, though, and to provide something enjoyable for as many Tamalpans as possible. The September run will be on the ridge off of Shoreline Highway on the way to Muir Beach, and accurate directions WILL be in the September Gazette and on the Tamalpa Website.
