In a somewhat novel situation, the participants in October's Tocaloma/Jewell TCRS actually began running without any one of them being entirely certain where they would be turning around on this out-and-back course. Not even the race directors. And in a wonderful combination of informality, common sense, good fortune, and The TCRS Spirit, everything worked out, as it usually does. Brad O'Brien, admittedly "running scared" on the final section of this flat-up-down-flat 5-miler, knowing that track stars Wayne Patton, Malcolm Fearon and Roy Kissin were back there somewhere, was so fearful that his final winning margin was almost a full minute for his third career TCRS victory. Natalie Simi patiently remained back in the pack until the climbing began over a fourth of the way into the race, and then she gradually wove her way through a very good women's field for another of her many wins over the years. The ratio of women to men finishers was possibly as high as it has ever been for a TCRS. It was a cool, calm, foggy morning, and recent rain had settled any dust to where the footing on the climbing sections was quite good. Heidi, Lillie, Anitra, Ray, Mike, Tom and The Crew worked their usual magic on the course and the finish line, as the 2007 Season nears its finale. - Jim Myers
