For the 26th consecutive January, a cold Sunday morning was witness to The Running of the Bulls, and The Bears, and Everyone In Between. Young, fast college and high school athletes anxious for their spring seasons to begin come out and remind the rest of us what fresh legs have always been able to achieve, but the full results also show that retirement for many of the veterans in this business is still quite a ways off. Some years the cold has been so bitter that folks have stayed in their cars until moments before the start, but this was a reasonable morning in that regard. Bat Bor was again the overall winner in what may have been a course record (there are statisticians working feverishly on the verification of that), and high school star Jacque Taylor held off San Francisco State's Anna Bretan in a fast women's race. Brad O'Brien, Brian Pilcher and Tom Lyons all impressively managed to squeeze into a Top Ten of otherwise much younger characters. The finish line operation was flawless, with this being possibly the most difficult one to record accurately, but our crew of Lillie, Heidi, Marilyn, Jay, Anitra, Steve, Greg and others turned in their usual top-notch performance. There's no indication on the horizon that, come next January, this same mysterious tradition won't play itself out again yet one more time. - Jim Myers
