2008 TCRS #9 Results

Vintage Oaks/Deer Island - Novato, Distance 4.55 miles
October 12th, 2008
74 Finishers: 54 men, 20 women

There was some uncertainty about where exactly we were gathering, and also some uncertainty about the footing crossing the marsh. All fears, though, were laid to rest in Course Captain Mike Holland's pre-race instructions: "After crossing the marsh, we will make a loop around Deer Island, on what is called The Deer Island Loop Trail." TCRS, in its magnificent simplicity, was to win the day yet one more time. The marsh footing was not really all that bad, though a chilly wind wasn't helpful on the long unprotected stretch which opened and closed this 4.5-miler, but The Deer Island Loop Trail is charming and relatively gentle. And, as far as we know, all who tried to find the start were successful. Mark McManus once again won by a ton, and Christina Lachman's victory amongst the women positions her for the 2008 over-all points title. Wayne Patton should hold on for that honor among the men. Mike was in charge for the second consecutive month, and the only detail he didn't cover was quieting down some angry bees who thought we should have had a permit. It was the Novato area's fifth TCRS of the year. Our volunteer crew did their usual exemplary job, and only one event remains to close out another great year of TCRS. - Jim Myers
