TCRS 2018 #5 Race Report – Loma Alta

For the fourth year in a row, the May TCRS event was held on our unofficial “Dipsea-lite” course in the Loma Alta Open Space in Fairfax. We were lucky to have perfect temperatures that Sunday morning as it can get very hot on the exposed course this time of year. Although there were many other racing events going on in Marin and the Bay Area, we had a large group of 97 Tamalpans and Marin Youth Runners out there enjoying the views and challenging course. The course started at the bottom of the Loma Alta Fireroad and proceeded uphill for almost 3 miles topping out on the 680 trail before bombing back down the hill and along the railroad trail to the finish at Whitehill Middle School.

On the women’s side, Isabel Diaz returned to the TCRS series and won in a time of 57:00 which was more than six minutes ahead of Anabela Diaz.  Third place went to Kathleen Helmer followed by Carolyn Cunha and Audrey MacLean who rounded out the top 5 females. The first Super Senior was Danielle Herrarias, the first Veteran was Bridie Dillon and the first Teenager was Audrey MacLean.

On the men’s side, Gary Gellin was hoping Lyle Rumon was racing to give Gary a challenge, but the high school track season kept Lyle away so Gary came away with a two minute win in a time of 46:25. Second place went to Wayne Best in another strong time of 48:31. Third through fifth place went to Michael Broom, Pedro Cifuentes and Doug Steedman in that order. Doug was the first Super Senior, the first Veteran was Hans Schmid and the first Teenager was Tyson Schnasse.

All results can be found here: https://www.tamalparunners.org/tcrs_2018_05.php. Congratulations to all who came out to run. If you have any comments or suggestions regarding the TCRS events, please send an email to the TCRS Director at tcrs@tamalparunners.org.

After a break in June, we will back for our next TCRS event will be on Friday, July 13th at McInnis Golf Course. As always, many thanks again to our volunteers for putting on a smooth event and see you in July!
