Tamalpa Runners Deeply Mourns the Loss of Mark Richtman

Dear Tamalpa running community,

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the loss of our beloved brother, Mark Richtman due to a kayaking accident in Tomales Bay. You can read a truly beautiful appreciation dedicated to Mark on UltraRunning Magazine’s website by clicking here and in the Marin Independent Journal, click here. Post your own memories and tributes about Mark on Tamalpa’s Facebook page and read others from so many who loved and admired him. He was truly an extraordinary man, whose loss can not be comprehended. He has been a major force in our club and the ultra running community for the last 30+ years, a leader, a champion, a multiple Black Shirt winner, and a national and world record holder of so many titles. He loved coaching his Marin Catholic team – and loved to share their accomplishments. He relished leading a group of runners training for the Headlands 50K, or running the stunning trails of Pt. Reyes. He was a philosopher, a Renaissance man, a naturalist, an uber-ultra runner, a ride & tie champ, the envy of all, a coach, a friend to everyone, and the most humble, kind-hearted, caring man there ever was. He will be duly missed by everyone who shared a love for running the trails, track, roads and adventures with him. He touched so many lives and lived life to its fullest. Mark will forever be in our hearts and memories as we run his favorite trails. Our grief shared, is our grief divided.
