President’s Message – September 2025

Runners are good planners…

Remember when you trained for your first big race? You set a goal, counseled with mentors, wrote out your training schedule, and then executed on your plan. Excellent! Executing on your plan sounds so simple…and can be so hard! Life gets in the way, other people ask for more of your time, your list of chores keeps growing, and your shoes need replacement. That said, your body only gets into running shape by doing the work and doing so according to a plan. You understand that…so you worked your plan. This discipline spilled over into other aspects of your life: parenting, work activities, social commitments, continuous learning, and spiritual time all benefited while you were in training for your big race. Planning and executing became your secondary muscle!

Running is good for our hearts, minds, families, relationships, and work. Running with friends, coaches, mentors, and peers increases our benefits geometrically. Running with other like-minded people introduces you to new trails, insights, lifestyles, and adventures. Running with purpose, and a plan, enhances our discipline and habit of planning.

Welcome to Tamalpa Runners…the source of many of those benefits and the home of many great planners!
